December 08 purchased a Toshiba 42 inch lcd T.V. for my daughter.Did not purchase useless overpriced extended warranty as these had already proved to be useless when dealing with Currys. After 18 months on off switch failed and set could not be used.oN Sat 21 aug visited local Cheltenham store who stated that the problem was nothing to do with them and I should contact Toshiba customer services.I did so only to be told it was nothing to do with them and that my contract was with the currys store and I should go back to them. On monday 23 returned to store with T.V. and asked them to look at it to confirm fault. Explained that I was not looking for a new set or a refund but simply wanted the set repaired. The deputy manager refused to let me bring the set into the store or have anyone look at it saying that it was nothing to do with the store and that I would have to go away and speak to Currys head office.I asked why he could not speak to his head office but he refused to do so.I asked for the head office number and tried to ring it on my mobile phone without success.Evenmtually he agreed to allow me to use the store phone to speak to head office but I was aware that as I was trying to do so he was also speaking to them on his company mobile to pre warn them. Ispoke to someone on their switchboard who said that they knew nothing about televisions and I would need to speak to a member of their customer relations team.Iasked to be put through to the team but was told there was no one available to speak to me.Ishould add that I had also checked the position with my local trading standards office who informed me that responsibility for dealing with this problem under the statutory rights set out in consumer protection law definately rested with the store. I pointed out to the manager that I was not satisfied with the response and that I was not leaving until I had spoken to someone who could tell me what they proposed to do. After a further hour a female member of staff spoke to customer relations team at head office(who had been unavailable to speak to me) and who would still not speak directly to me.They told the staff member to tell me that if I would leave the store they would ring me within the next few days.Iwas asked by the staff member and manager how I felt about this proposal and I replied that I was still not happy and that I would still wait for a more positive outcome. I was then told by the manager that if I did not leave the store he would call the police and have me removed. I said that this was not a reasonable response as I was merely trying to resolve a civil contractual dispute with them.I should point out that throughout this whole saga I remained polite did not raise my voice once or swear, points all confirmed by the manager when the police came to remove me. I am a 63 year old diabetic and also registered disabled so I was not in a position to do anything except let the police remove me when they threatened to charge me with breach of the peace. I do not see how I could be breaching the peace when politely arguing my case with the store. Anyway I was removed and told not to return to the store. I feel extremely upset about my treatment by the dixons/currys group and am even more surprised and disappointed that the police should have sen fit to intervene on behalf of the store without even listening to my side of the saga.It would appear that the agencies of the state are always prepared to act in favour of the big moneycompanies rather than fairly protect the little person. I now have to try to write,E mail and telephone the company further and no doubt still without reply or appology based on previous experience.neither I or my family will ever shop at this groups stores again and we will do our best to further spread the word about this group. It would appear however tha the number of complaints against them on the net show that they have such a large slice of the market that they just dont care.

Would never buy anything from Currys again. Told that if we paid now on a 600 pound fridge freezer we would have it delivered that afternoon. The story then changed after we had bought it to the next day. We were promised it would be the day after between 11am and 1pm. By 1.30 it had still not arrived and we tried to get in contact with the store we had purchased it from....apparantly they do not have an outside phone line, so we had to go through a call center...who didnt seem to know anything about our order. When it finally arrived at 5pm (having had no fridge freezer for over 12hrs, because they wouldnt take our old one if it hadnt been defrosted). We asked the delivery guys to unwrap it to check for damages, both doors had around 12 dents, marks and gauges on it. TOTALLY DISCUSTED WITH CURRYS AND WOULD NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM AGAIN, NOR WOULD I EVER RECOMMEND THEM!!

After poor sales service (should have stopped it right there, but we needed the dishwasher ASAP) my wife took delivery of a dishwasher which we unpacked later that evening. The edge of the door was heavily dented but this had been concelealed by the packaging. I had a very poor and abrupt response from customer service, which if you search the web seems fairly typical for Currys. To sum up, I won't be going there again, and I suggest you shouldn't if you value service. They are quite expensive, which could be justified if you did receive better service, but as this is not the case, you might as well buy off the web.
