  1. I wrote a check to a company for only $40 and it was declined. I was totally embarrassed when she gave me my check back. But what really made me angry was the fact that the cashier put me on blast by hollering to another coworker..”i have a check denied, what do I do?…..They gave me no number to call. I had to call back to the store ask questions like, “What’s the number to call if you have a check returned. this is unusual for me. They told me that they didn’t know the number but they did give me the name of the company. 1.800.237.3826 is the umber to call. I called them and they ask for my bank routing number and account number and they could not find a reason why my check was denied. This is not right…its’ embarrassing and I think something needs to be done about it!

  2. I was turned down for a check transaction at a local LOWES store.

I have written checks there since the opened.

Certagy turned down my good check.

I tried to call them ,(certagy) but was caught in a computer loop.

I advised Lowes corporate of my disappointment with their choice of Venders.

What a way to fail at their business

  3. I tried to make a purchase at Macy’s on Mar. 16, 2014. My check was declined by Certegy even though I had much more money in the bank. I have not had a returned check as they stated. I tried to contact Certegy several times and cannot get anyone to help me. I will never shop at Macy’s again, but how can I get help and clear my name. How can I write checks in the future and where?

  4. This joke of a company denied my tax return citing my credit report. What a joke. I truly hope that something is done to bring these companies to heel.

  5. This is unbelievable! I joined TropicanaOnLine Casino to play slots and deposited $20.00 in their account through

my checking account which is what you have to do to play. I tried to play to no avail. Norton kept cropping up with, “this site is not safe”, and would not allow me to play! I email Tropicana, at their request as to why I wasn’t playing, I told them in that email that it was because of my Norton Security! I had insufficient funds at the time so the bank PAID that check and charged me $35.00 per my overdraft protection agreement. Tropicana sends the check transaction in again to be paid again! Then Certegy gets involved sends it in again for a 3rd time, once again “insufficient funds”, because I never expected I needed more money since the check was paid the first time! You’ll love this!!!

Then… Certegy wants $25.00 on their side as a “Returned Check Fee” My account goes negative again!!! The bank charges me another $35.00 because OF THE UNEXPECTED CHARGE FROM CERTEGY!!! I call Tropicana and explain THEY tell me they will refund my initial $20.00 and that MY BEEF IS REALLY WITH CERTEGY!!! I CALL THEM…SORRY WE CAN’T DO ANYTHING, “you can call “customer care” but they won’t be able to help you!” (So WHY do they exist?) It cost me $105.00 in returned check fees and they paid the $25.00 FEE to Certegy who was PAID ON NOV. 30th the 1st time!!! The bank says, “since they have your account # they can keep re-depositing that Check (request) as many times as they want!!! I had to pay an additional $25.00 to the bank to STOP Payment from…CERTEGY. So I have about 14,319 people I am connected to on Facebook, Twitter and various other sites! (The bank showed me that they did pay the check CERTEGY won’t recognize that) Use your imagination!!!

  6. On April 18, 2016, I, too, encountered a problem with this check-approving company. In August 2014, I paid Pet Smart with a check in the amount of $15.48, which was accepted by the cashier at Pet Smart. I check my Checking Account often and noticed the check was actually cashed for $26.16 on August 28, 2014. I tried talking to someone at Pet Smart but they could not explain why the difference. I called my credit union and they kicked the check back to Pet Smart. NOW, ONE YEAR AND 8 MONTHS LATER, the stores I usually shop at are refusing to accept my checks because this company does not authorize them to accept them. This is definitely an inconvenience. Hopefully this will be straightened out quickly.

  8. I would like to know the criteria used to refuse my check. I want a copy of my customer report. I called the number

provided only to get your canned message. It is embarrassing to be refused when you know the money is there.

  9. I tried to cash a check for $2100 at walmart. My boss loaned me money so I could bury my sister. The check was declined by Certegy. My boss is a multimillionare. the company I work for employs 25people. We all average $2500 a week.I have worked for boss 6 years and he has never bounced a check. Certegy sucks ..Their analytical model is outdated and are truly hurting Walmart. I will not even shop at Walmart until the stop using Certegy

  10. Today, July 14th, 2015, is the first time I even heard of Certegy. I went to my local Hibbets Sports store to purchase some shoes. I asked the young man that assisted me if I could write a check using my Driver’s License as I.D. Hey, I had been in the store before and the same young man waited on me. Well, after copying down my Driver’s license and entering the information he just left and said he needed to check with the manager. When the manager came back he asked if all my info was correct and said he was having a problem getting approval. He did tell me that sometimes the system does not accept bank numbers or they have to enter stuff several times, etc. Well, my check was declined and needless to say I felt embarrassed because I had sufficient funds to cover my purchase and I have written checks in town before to Walmart and the dentist and doctor’s office and NO problem. Anyway, my Bank was just right across the street from Hibbetts so I told the manager I’d just go over to the Bank write a check and get the money. Hey, the minute I walked in the Bank one of the tellers recognized me and I had no problems what-so-ever getting “CASH”. I went back over to the Hibbetts store and plunked my CASH down…and told the manager I went to the Bank and they KNOW ME there! The manager handed me a Certergy card and said I could call them to find out “why” I was declined. He just told me there was something about not enough sufficient information. I DID try when I got home “several’ times and each time got the response from an automated voice, “I’m sorry due to circumstances out of our control we cannot take your phone call now, try again later”. Well, am I glad I found this site to see what a bogus company Certergy is. YES(!), if I remember I too will ask if a business uses the Certergy Service before using a check and if they do I will not do business with them! Just hope my local Walmart does not start using Certegy, though! After reading the majority of previous emails I can concur that Certegy is just out for themselves and is doing a great dis-service to “honest” people in the process.R. Kreves

  11. I went to walmart in waynesboro pa yesterday and my payroll check was declined from reputable hugh company they need to fix this. I have never committed fraud a day n my life

  12. After 3 attempts to talk with someone at this company (ALL spoke with broken English) and after 3 times at different locations writing a check and being denied 3 times because of this inept company, I found out the guy to whom I was talking was actually in the PHILLIPINES!! I asked for a telephone number for Tampa (location shown on my DENIAL receipt) and he couldn’t give it to me. After giving more information about my denied checks than I was comfortable giving out, he told me a dispute claim had been filed and I would receive a letter from Cetergy anywhere from 3 to 30 days. I asked where the dispute claim would be mailed from and he told me Tampa; I also asked for a copy of the dispute claim to be sent to my email and he said he couldn’t do that. He did tell me a check had been returned, told me the check number and it isn’t even my check nor has my bank notified me of any returned check. This company is a disgrace. Will never return to any business who uses Cetergy and I will ask first before making any purchases. This company needs to be investigated and shut down.

  13. Just left Lowes after my check was declined. I went home checked my checking account balance and I had nearly 5,000 in it. I called Certegy to find out the reason for the declination and was read a long list of what if(s) providing NO exact reason. I have a high credit score, have no outstanding loans, and only the monthly living expense bills. I asked to speak to manager to find out what the reason my check was declined, hoping to gather more information. However, again I was give a list of things which “could” have prompted the rejection of my check. I told the manager that I find it ludicrous that they are able to decline a check but not provide any information to why. I told her I needed to know so I could find out if someone had high jacked my identity or some other reason. For the third time I heard the same thing. Needless to say I was embarrassed at the checkout line and ended up using a form of payment that I would rather not use. I would think that Lowes would use a check verification company that actually verified the check with a legitimate process. I have purchased plenty of high ticket items from Lowes, the last being dishwasher, but other home improvement stores are not any further away.

  14. I am an employee of Walmart and work in the Money Center. I deal with people’s checks being declined by Certegy on a daily basis. Today I tried to cash a check issued to me and they declined my check. Upon calling the number I was given and speaking to a person I was told that my ID is fake. My ID was issued by the DMV in my state. It came directly from the state and I have never had any problems with it. I contacted the DMV as instructed only to be told that my ID was in fact valid. I tried to contact Certegy again to let them know that the DMV confirmed I do possess a valid state issued ID. Was again told my ID is fake and does not match. This is unacceptable! Businesses employ this company to prevent fraud but are losing customers due to the problems Certegy causes.

  15. I had to click a rating of one on here just to leave a comment but really my rating is minus 10. Just called the number given to me by Sam’s Club to talk to someone at Certegy about a check. They asked me a couple questions and hung up on me!! Haven’t been able to reach them since. This service sucks…Get rid of it Sam’s Club and Walmart!!

  16. The above comments as to Certegy’s ineptness and fraudulent practices of setting up a quota to reject a certain amount of checks without rhyme or reason is absolutely accurate. It is embarrassing to the customer who attempts to cash legitimate, good checks at a retailer only to be declined. The retailer becomes the victim also because the rejected, embarrassed consumer will do their business elsewhere. Certegy employee read from placards and their team leaders probably aren’t very bright either, especially the one I dealt with on 3/19/2015. This business should be shut down due to fraudulent business practices and a major scam to any company that hires them. They reject good checks from being cashed in an arbitrary and capricious manner.

  17. Aside from a bill or two that can’t be paid electronically, I don’t write checks often, especially for a purchase. But recently I was in my neighborhood grocery store and realized I didn’t have my debit card with me so I tried paying with my check, which was declined. How embarrassing! I paid by checks to this same grocery store for years before I began using a debit card – never having written a bad check. The clerk apologizes and hands me a worthless Certegy card to “inquire”. I have tried multiple times trying to reach someone at Certegy, once holding for 27 minutes!, and have yet to get another person at the end of the line. I have decided to stop trying as I’m really not worried about people accepting my “good” checks in the future. But after reading these comments wanted to record my experience and give my poor opinion of Certegy…I agree with some of the others, any business using this ‘service’ are losing money, and likely, customers.
