  • Transaction date and merchant for a dispute

Current OpenSky Credit Cards

OpenSky currently markets several secured Visa credit-card options, including:

  • OpenSky Launch Secured Visa
  • OpenSky Secured Visa
  • OpenSky Plus Secured Visa

The required security deposit, annual or monthly fees, interest rate and other terms differ by product and can change.

Review the current card disclosures before applying rather than relying on an older review or advertisement.

Does OpenSky Require a Credit Check?

OpenSky currently advertises its secured credit cards as allowing consumers to apply without a traditional credit check.

That feature can make the cards an option for people with limited, damaged or no established credit history.

However, no credit check does not mean guaranteed approval.

OpenSky can still decline an application for reasons involving eligibility requirements such as:

  • Identity verification
  • U.S. residency
  • Age
  • Income and ability to make required payments
  • Existing Capital Bank credit-card accounts
  • Prior or current Capital Bank account history

Review the current application disclosures before submitting an application.

How an OpenSky Secured Credit Card Works

A secured credit card requires the customer to provide a refundable security deposit.

The deposit generally establishes the initial credit limit.

For example, a qualifying secured account funded with a $300 deposit would ordinarily begin with a corresponding $300 secured credit limit, subject to the applicable card terms.

The security deposit is not a monthly payment and does not eliminate the obligation to pay the credit-card bill.

Cardholders must continue making required payments by the due date.

OpenSky Credit Reporting

OpenSky currently reports account information to all three major nationwide consumer credit bureaus:

  • Experian
  • Equifax
  • TransUnion

Responsible account management and on-time payments can contribute to building credit history, but no company can guarantee that an individual’s credit score will increase by a particular number of points.

Credit scores depend on information across the consumer’s entire credit file.

OpenSky Payments

OpenSky cardholders can manage payments through MyAccount and the OpenSky mobile app.

OpenSky currently says a payment received before its daily cutoff generally posts to the account the same day.

However, there is an important distinction between a payment posting and available credit becoming available again.

OpenSky says restoring available credit after a payment can take up to five business days.

If a payment appears on the account but your available credit has not increased:

  1. Confirm that the payment has cleared your bank.
  2. Check the payment status in MyAccount.
  3. Allow for the available-credit restoration period.
  4. Contact OpenSky if the expected period has passed.

OpenSky Payment Mailing Address

OpenSky currently publishes this standard payment address:

OpenSky
P.O. Box 660924
Dallas, TX 75266-0924

For overnight payments:

OpenSky Card Services
Box #660924
3000 Kellway Dr., Ste. 120
Carrollton, TX 75006

Include the information required by OpenSky with the payment and check the latest billing statement before mailing because payment addresses can change.

OpenSky Correspondence and Billing Disputes

For general written correspondence and billing disputes, OpenSky currently publishes:

OpenSky Card Services
P.O. Box 9224
Old Bethpage, NY 11804-9224

This address is different from the payment address.

Follow the instructions and deadlines on your billing statement or Cardholder Agreement when submitting a formal billing dispute.

Keep copies of:

  • The disputed statement
  • Receipts
  • Merchant correspondence
  • Refund promises
  • Cancellation confirmations
  • Anything mailed to OpenSky

until the dispute is complete.

Lost or Stolen OpenSky Card

Call 1-800-859-6412 immediately if your OpenSky card is lost or stolen.

OpenSky says it will block the missing card and issue a replacement with a new card number.

Also review recent transactions and report anything you do not recognize.

After receiving a replacement card, update recurring payments and digital wallets that used the old card number.

OpenSky Fraud and Unauthorized Transactions

If you notice a transaction you did not authorize, contact OpenSky immediately using the number printed on the card or 1-800-859-6412.

Do not provide:

  • Passwords
  • One-time verification codes
  • Security-question answers
  • Full Social Security numbers

to an unexpected caller or sender.

OpenSky warns customers to be cautious of unsolicited emails and telephone calls asking for account credentials.

OpenSky Card Delivery

OpenSky currently advises customers to allow approximately 12 to 14 business days after the application is approved and the security deposit is processed for a new card to arrive.

If the card has not arrived after that period, call 1-800-859-6412.

OpenSky says it can review the account for unauthorized activity and issue another card when necessary.

How to Close an OpenSky Secured Credit Card

OpenSky says cardholders can close their account by contacting Customer Service.

Before closing:

  1. Review the current balance.
  2. Stop or move recurring charges.
  3. Download statements you want to keep.
  4. Confirm the mailing address for the security-deposit refund.
  5. Ask whether any pending transactions remain.
  6. Keep the account-closure confirmation.

Closing a card does not eliminate an outstanding balance.

OpenSky may apply security-deposit funds toward money still owed under the Cardholder Agreement.

When Does OpenSky Return the Security Deposit?

For a secured account, OpenSky says the security deposit is returned after:

  • The account is closed
  • The outstanding balance and other obligations are satisfied

OpenSky says the refund generally arrives in less than four weeks, although certain situations can take as long as eight weeks.

Make sure OpenSky has your current mailing information before closing the account.

Contact Customer Service if the applicable period passes without the expected refund.

OpenSky Credit Limit Increases

Eligible cardholders may be able to request a secured credit-line increase through MyAccount.

A secured increase can require adding additional money to the security deposit.

OpenSky also says some customers may later become eligible for a partially unsecured increase or other account opportunities based on account history.

Eligibility is not guaranteed.

Before adding more security-deposit funds, review:

  • The new credit limit
  • The amount of additional deposit required
  • Your current balance
  • Current Cardholder Agreement terms

OpenSky and Capital Bank

OpenSky is a division of Capital Bank, N.A.

Capital Bank’s current corporate headquarters is:

Capital Bank, N.A.
2275 Research Blvd., Suite 600
Rockville, MD 20850

Capital Bank specifically instructs OpenSky credit-card applicants and customers to use OpenSky’s designated correspondence channels rather than sending routine card questions to a Capital Bank branch.

Use the OpenSky address on your statement for payments, disputes and card-account correspondence.

How to Escalate an OpenSky Complaint

  1. Contact OpenSky Customer Service at 1-800-859-6412.
  2. Explain the problem clearly and identify the transaction, payment or account issue involved.
  3. Keep statements, confirmations and correspondence.
  4. For a billing dispute, follow the written instructions and deadline on your statement.
  5. Ask OpenSky to confirm any promised adjustment or account correction.
  6. If an eligible financial-services complaint remains unresolved, consider using the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau complaint process.

The CFPB accepts complaints involving credit cards and other consumer financial products.

Official complaint information is available at ConsumerFinance.gov.
