Oncor Customer Service, Outages, Emergencies & Complaints

Oncor customer service handles power outages, downed lines, meters, electric-delivery equipment, streetlights maintained by Oncor, new construction, service requests and certain property-damage claims. Billing, payments, electricity plans and starting or stopping service at an existing meter are generally handled by your retail electricity provider.

If your power is out, report the outage directly to Oncor instead of leaving an outage report in a public review.

Oncor Customer Service and Outage Contacts

Downed line warning: Leave the area and call 911. Never approach a downed wire or anything touching it.

Is Oncor Your Electricity Provider?

Oncor is a transmission and distribution utility, sometimes called a TDU or TDSP. It maintains electric-delivery infrastructure in its Texas service territory, including power lines, poles, transformers and meters.

Oncor does not sell retail electricity plans directly to residential customers. The company named on your electric bill—such as TXU Energy, Green Mountain Energy or another retail electricity provider—generally handles:

  • Electric bills and payments
  • Rate plans and contract renewals
  • Payment arrangements and extensions
  • Deposits and account credits
  • Starting, stopping or transferring service at an existing meter
  • Disconnection notices for nonpayment
  • Changing retail electricity providers

Oncor generally handles:

  • Power outages and restoration
  • Downed or damaged power lines
  • Transformer, pole and utility-equipment problems
  • Meter and electric-delivery service requests
  • Streetlights owned or maintained by Oncor
  • New construction and changes to electric infrastructure
  • Trees or vegetation creating a hazard near Oncor lines
  • Claims alleging damage caused by Oncor

How to Report an Oncor Power Outage

Report an outage by calling 1-888-313-4747, using Oncor’s online outage tool, using the MyOncor app or texting OUT to 66267 after registering for MyOncor Alerts.

Oncor’s outage number is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Information to Have Ready

  • The complete service address
  • The telephone number associated with the property
  • Whether the entire property has lost power
  • Whether neighboring properties also appear to be without power
  • Whether a pole, line, transformer or tree appears damaged
  • Whether lights are unusually bright, dim or flickering
  • Whether the Oncor outage map shows the outage

Even if an outage appears on the map, reporting your address can help Oncor confirm the number and location of affected customers.

If the Map Says Power Is Restored

If Oncor reports that service has been restored but your property remains without power:

  1. Check the main breaker when it is safe to do so.
  2. Check whether nearby properties have electricity.
  3. Report the outage again at 1-888-313-4747.
  4. Explain that the surrounding area appears restored but your address remains without service.
  5. Ask whether the service line, meter or customer-owned electrical equipment may require inspection.

Storm damage to a meter base, weatherhead, service mast, electrical panel or other customer-owned equipment may require repair by a licensed electrician before Oncor can reconnect service.

Downed Power Lines and Electrical Emergencies

Stay Away From Downed Power Lines

  • Assume every downed wire is energized.
  • Leave the area immediately and call 911.
  • Keep children, pets, vehicles and other people away.
  • Do not touch a tree, fence, puddle, vehicle or debris near the wire.
  • Do not attempt to move the wire or anything touching it.
  • You can also report the condition to Oncor at 1-888-313-4747 after reaching a safe location.

Call 911 immediately for fire, sparking equipment, injury, a wire across a road or another immediate public-safety threat.

Partial Power, Flickering Lights and Voltage Problems

Report partial power, repeated flickering, unusually bright or dim lights, transformer problems and other possible delivery-system conditions to Oncor at 1-888-313-4747.

Turn off or unplug sensitive electronics when safe. If there is smoke, fire, a burning odor, excessive heat or active sparking, leave the affected area and call 911.

Oncor can inspect utility-owned equipment. A licensed electrician may be needed when the problem involves the meter enclosure, service entrance, electrical panel, breakers, grounding system or internal wiring.

MyOncor Alerts and Mobile App

Register for MyOncor Alerts by texting REG to 66267. Registered customers can text OUT to report an outage and may receive text, email or voice updates.

The MyOncor app can be used to report outages, check outage information and manage certain service requests. Message, data and app-store terms may apply.

Restoration estimates can change when crews discover additional damage, encounter unsafe weather, cannot access equipment or must complete higher-priority safety repairs first.

Oncor Customer Service and Service Requests

For general inquiries, meters, usage questions, service requests, temporary meter disconnection, construction questions, suspected meter tampering and non-outage concerns, call 1-888-313-6862.

Oncor’s primary contact page currently lists general support hours as Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time. Support schedules can change, and some older Oncor site navigation may display different weekday hours.

You can also email contactcenter@oncor.com for non-urgent matters. Do not use ordinary email for a downed line, active outage or immediate electrical hazard.

Electric Bills, Payments and Disconnection Notices

Contact the retail electricity provider shown on your electric bill for:

  • High bills or disputed charges
  • Payments and payment confirmations
  • Payment arrangements or extensions
  • Deposits and account credits
  • Rate-plan questions
  • Contract renewal or cancellation
  • Disconnection for nonpayment
  • Starting, stopping or transferring retail service

Oncor delivery charges may appear as part of the retail provider’s bill, but the retail provider should explain the bill, payment status and account contract.

If the issue concerns meter usage or delivery-system information rather than the price charged by the retail provider, call Oncor at 1-888-313-6862.

Starting, Stopping or Moving Electric Service

If the property already has a meter, choose and contact a retail electricity provider to start service. Existing customers should contact their retail provider to stop or transfer service.

Texas customers can compare participating retail providers and electricity plans through Power to Choose.

Use Oncor’s service-request resources when a new property needs electric infrastructure, a new meter or construction-related service. Oncor may also be needed when remodeling, increasing electrical load, relocating equipment or converting overhead service to underground.

Oncor Meter, Usage and ESI ID Help

Call 1-888-313-6862 for Oncor meter or delivery-service requests. Do not disconnect, open, move or tamper with an Oncor meter yourself.

An ESI ID is the unique identifier associated with an electric-service location. It may appear on the electric bill. If you need the ESI ID for an existing account, begin with your retail provider or use Oncor’s residential service resources.

Customers may also be able to review detailed smart-meter usage through Smart Meter Texas. Usage information is different from the retail rate and billing terms established by the electricity provider.

Streetlight Outages

Report a streetlight that is out, flickering, damaged or operating during daylight through the Oncor streetlight reporting system. You can also call 1-888-313-4747 or email contactcenter@oncor.com.

Provide the nearest address, intersection and pole number when visible. Not every streetlight in Oncor’s service territory is owned or maintained by Oncor. Highway lights may be maintained by TxDOT, while some lights belong to a city, county, neighborhood or property owner.

Call 911 for a fallen pole, exposed wiring, active sparking or another immediate hazard rather than submitting an ordinary streetlight report.

Trees Near Oncor Power Lines

Do not trim, cut or climb a tree that is touching or close to an energized power line. Report potentially hazardous vegetation to Oncor at 1-888-313-6862.

Call 911 when a tree or branch is actively sparking, burning, pulling down a line or creating an immediate public-safety danger.

Call 811 Before Digging

Call 811 before excavation, trenching, fence installation, landscaping or other digging. Oncor instructs customers to request utility markings at least 48 hours before digging when applicable.

Do not rely on old markings, private assumptions or the location of nearby meters to determine where underground utilities are located.

Oncor Property-Damage Claims

If you believe Oncor caused property damage, personal injury or another compensable loss, use the Oncor online claims portal.

Potential claims can include alleged damage to appliances, customer property, vehicles or other documented losses. Submission does not guarantee payment. Oncor states that liability may be limited when an interruption or damage results from weather, wildlife, fire, voltage fluctuations, partial power, third-party actions or other circumstances outside its control.

What to Keep for a Claim

  • Date, time and location of the incident
  • Outage or service-request confirmation
  • Photographs and video
  • Damaged property when safe to retain
  • Purchase receipts and proof of ownership
  • Repair estimates and electrician reports
  • Food-loss or inventory records when applicable
  • Names and dates of previous Oncor contacts

Oncor says an assigned claims representative generally provides an initial response within approximately 10 business days. Customers can also call 1-888-313-6862 to request contact from the Claims department.

Critical Care and Chronic Condition Customers

Certain residential customers may qualify for Critical Care or Chronic Condition status under Public Utility Commission of Texas rules. Review Oncor’s critical-care and chronic-condition information and contact your retail electricity provider for eligibility and application assistance.

Important: A critical-care or chronic-condition designation does not guarantee uninterrupted electricity or immediate restoration. Anyone who depends on electrically powered medical equipment should maintain an emergency and backup-power plan appropriate to their circumstances.

Oncor Scam and Impersonation Warning

Oncor Does Not Collect Ordinary Retail Electric-Bill Payments

  • Oncor delivers electricity but is not the retail company that sells your electricity plan.
  • Oncor says its employees will not call or visit to demand payment to prevent disconnection.
  • Do not pay an unexpected caller with a gift card, cryptocurrency, wire transfer or payment app.
  • Do not rely solely on caller ID; telephone numbers can be spoofed.
  • Do not share account numbers, payment details, passwords or verification codes with an unexpected caller.
  • Oncor employees and authorized contractors working on delivery equipment should carry company identification.

Verify a suspicious Oncor contact by calling 1-888-313-6862. Call 911 if someone threatens you, attempts to force entry or creates an immediate safety concern.

How to Escalate an Oncor Complaint

  1. Use the correct company. Contact Oncor for delivery-system problems and your retail electricity provider for billing, payments, plans and nonpayment disconnections.
  2. Request a service or case number. Record the date, time and representative’s name.
  3. Document the problem. Save outage notices, bills, meter information, photographs, repair reports and correspondence.
  4. State the requested resolution. Ask for a service inspection, meter review, claim investigation, written explanation or supervisor review.
  5. Follow up through Oncor customer service. Call 1-888-313-6862 or email contactcenter@oncor.com.
  6. Escalate a regulated utility complaint. If Oncor has had an opportunity to resolve the matter and the regulated issue remains unresolved, contact the Public Utility Commission of Texas.

Public Utility Commission of Texas

The PUCT is not an emergency dispatcher. Continue using 911 and Oncor’s outage line for active hazards and outages.
