How to Contact AES Indiana Customer Service

Choose the contact option that matches the type of assistance you need:

AES Indiana says customers should allow up to three business days for a response submitted through its contact form. Do not use the form for an outage, collection matter, threatened disconnection or another issue requiring immediate assistance.

Electrical safety warning: Stay away from fallen, broken, sparking or damaged power lines. Treat every line as energized. Call 1-317-261-8111 immediately. Call 911 first when someone is injured or in immediate danger.

How to Report an AES Indiana Power Outage

Call the AES Indiana Lights Out Day or Night Line at 1-317-261-8111. The outage line is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Customers can also use the official AES Indiana outage center to report an outage, view the outage map and review current outage information.

Do not assume AES Indiana already knows that your service is out. Report the outage unless you have received an outage alert confirming that it has been identified.

AES Indiana Billing and Payment Help

AES Indiana provides several ways to pay an electric bill:

  • Checking or savings payment by phone: Call 1-317-261-8222 or 1-888-261-8222 and select ExpressCheck.
  • Credit or debit card payment: Call 1-800-672-2407. AES Indiana identifies this as a KUBRA EZ-Pay service and currently lists a processing fee.
  • Online payment: Review the official payment and billing options.
  • Payment mailing address: AES Indiana, P.O. Box 110, Indianapolis, IN 46206-0110

Include the account number when mailing a payment. Do not mail cash. Payment methods, third-party processing fees and addresses can change, so verify the information on the current AES Indiana payment page before sending a payment.

Payment Extensions and Financial Assistance

Customers who need additional time to pay should contact AES Indiana before the due date or scheduled disconnection date. AES Indiana offers qualifying customers short-term and longer-term payment extensions.

Residential customers can call 1-888-261-8222 and select the billing and payments option or review the company’s payment-extension information.

Additional programs may include levelized billing, energy assistance and other income-qualified assistance. Eligibility, deadlines and available funding can change. Review the current AES Indiana payment-assistance page.

Start, Stop or Transfer AES Indiana Service

Customers moving into, out of or within the AES Indiana service area can request a service connection, disconnection or transfer through the company’s moving and service-change center.

New residential customers should call 1-888-261-8222. AES Indiana recommends requesting new service at least three business days before the desired service date.

Be prepared to provide the service address, requested start or stop date, contact information and information needed for identity and credit verification. Submit sensitive information only through an official private AES Indiana channel.

How to Escalate an AES Indiana Complaint

  1. Call the appropriate AES Indiana customer-service number and explain the problem clearly.
  2. Record the date, time, representative’s name or identification number, and any case or reference number.
  3. State the resolution you are requesting, such as a billing correction, payment investigation, service repair, account adjustment or written explanation.
  4. If the issue remains unresolved, request a supervisor or formal escalation.
  5. Keep bills, payment confirmations, outage dates, photographs, emails and previous case numbers.
  6. For a regulated utility dispute that remains unresolved, contact the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission after first giving AES Indiana an opportunity to address the problem.

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission Consumer Affairs Division handles qualifying disputes involving billing, deposits, service quality, termination of service and other regulated utility matters. Call 1-800-851-4268 or 1-317-232-2712, or review the IURC customer-assistance and complaint process. The IURC currently lists telephone hours of Monday–Friday, 8:15 a.m.–4:45 p.m. ET.

Do not publish account numbers, payment information, Social Security numbers, service-access information or other private data in a public review.

AES Indiana scam warning: Be suspicious of unexpected callers or visitors demanding immediate payment through gift cards, prepaid cards, cryptocurrency, barcodes or mobile payment applications. End the communication and verify the account through AES Indiana’s official website or by calling 1-888-261-8222. AES Indiana says it does not require one specific payment method.

AES Indiana Customer Service Reviews and Complaints

CustomerServiceNumbers.com currently displays one legacy IPL review, which is not enough to establish a broad review pattern. The three-star review, submitted in November 2015, describes alleged power surges and outages, increased electric bills and dissatisfaction with customer-service responses.

The review reflects one customer’s reported experience and has not been independently verified by CustomerServiceNumbers.com. Current customers can leave a review describing recent billing, outage, payment, service or customer-support experiences.

Is Indianapolis Power & Light Now AES Indiana?

Yes. Indianapolis Power & Light Company changed its customer-facing name to AES Indiana in February 2021. Customers may still encounter the names Indianapolis Power & Light, IPL or IPALCO on older bills, records, reviews, property documents and online references.

The name change did not create a separate Indianapolis electric utility. Former IPL customers should use AES Indiana’s current website, account tools and customer-service numbers.

AES Indiana Corporate Office and Mailing Address

AES Indiana’s official customer-contact page lists the following correspondence address:

AES Indiana
One Monument Circle
P.O. Box 1595
Indianapolis, IN 46206-1595

This is a correspondence address. Bill payments should be mailed to the separate payment address shown on the current bill or official payment page. Do not send cash, original documents or urgent outage reports to the corporate office or mailing address.

IPL Customer Service Issues

November 22, 2015

IPL, This has been one of the most disappointing and overpriced utility services I’ve ever experienced. We experience frequent power surges and outages, and the repeated interruptions completely erased the contents of my DVR—including nearly 80 hours of irreplaceable videos. Every time I contact customer service, I receive the same response: “We’re sorry.” An apology doesn’t restore those memories or address the ongoing reliability issues. On top of that, my electric bill has nearly doubled over the past eight years. It used to average around $100 per month, and now it’s close to $200, even though my electricity usage has remained about the same. As a customer, I expect reliable service and fair pricing. Instead, I’ve experienced recurring outages, increasing costs, and little confidence that these problems will be addressed. If you’re considering moving to Indianapolis, be aware that this is the electric utility many residents rely on. My experience has been one of rising costs and disappointing service, and I believe prospective customers should know what to expect.
