Volkswagen Customer Service, Warranty and Roadside Assistance

If you need help with a Volkswagen warranty repair, recall, breakdown, myVW account, finance payment or dealership complaint, use the department that controls that part of the transaction. Volkswagen Customer CARE handles ownership and manufacturer concerns, while independently operated dealers, finance companies, roadside providers and charging networks have separate responsibilities.

Volkswagen Customer Service Contact Information

Volkswagen currently publishes Customer CARE telephone and chat hours of Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST. The old 8 a.m.-9 p.m. schedule should no longer be relied upon. Roadside Assistance and myVW connected-services support have separate 24/7 numbers.

Which Volkswagen Support Route Should You Use?

  • Vehicle operation, maintenance or manufacturer warranty: Call Volkswagen Customer CARE at 1-800-822-8987.
  • Breakdown or towing: Call Volkswagen Roadside Assistance at 1-800-411-6688.
  • Recall or service campaign: Check the VIN and contact an authorized Volkswagen dealer.
  • Dealership sale, deposit or trade-in: Start with the dealership’s sales manager or general manager.
  • Repair workmanship or service invoice: Contact the service adviser and service manager at the dealership that performed the work.
  • myVW app or connected-service problem: Call 1-833-648-2735.
  • Lease or Volkswagen Financial Services account: Call 1-800-428-4034 or use the account portal.
  • Retail finance account serviced by Wells Fargo: Use the telephone number and account portal shown on the Wells Fargo statement or contract.
  • Electrify America charging problem: Call 1-833-632-2778.
  • Immediate crash, fire or medical emergency: Call 911 before contacting ordinary customer service.

Information to Gather Before Contacting Volkswagen

  • The 17-character vehicle identification number, or VIN
  • The model, model year, mileage and registration state
  • The vehicle’s original in-service date, when known
  • The authorized Volkswagen dealer involved
  • Repair-order and invoice numbers
  • Dates and mileage for each repair attempt
  • Warning lights, error messages and symptoms
  • Recall or service-campaign information
  • The warranty and maintenance booklet
  • The sales, lease or finance agreement
  • Photographs or videos documenting the problem
  • Earlier Volkswagen Customer CARE case numbers

Provide private vehicle and account information only through verified Volkswagen, dealer, finance-company or government channels. Do not post a VIN, finance-account number or active vehicle location in a public review.

Volkswagen Customer CARE Mailing Address

Volkswagen currently publishes the following address for Customer CARE correspondence:

Volkswagen Customer CARE
3800 Hamlin Road
Auburn Hills, MI 48326-2829

This is a consumer-correspondence address, not the Volkswagen Group of America headquarters. Do not send a vehicle, keys, title, payment, electronic device or original documents to this address unless Volkswagen provides specific instructions.

Volkswagen Roadside Assistance

Volkswagen Roadside Assistance is available 24 hours a day at 1-800-411-6688. Assistance may also be requested through the myVW app, the in-vehicle wrench button on eligible vehicles or Volkswagen’s online roadside service.

Current new Volkswagen vehicles generally include three years or 36,000 miles of Roadside Assistance, whichever occurs first. Coverage is provided by a third party and is governed by the applicable roadside program guide.

Depending on eligibility and circumstances, services may include:

  • Towing after a covered mechanical breakdown
  • Collision towing
  • Battery jump-start service
  • Flat-tire service
  • A lockout-service attempt
  • Limited emergency fuel delivery
  • Trip-interruption benefits

Coverage limits, towing destinations, reimbursement requirements and exclusions apply. Volkswagen may require preauthorization before reimbursing self-arranged towing or roadside service.

Call 911 first after a serious collision, vehicle fire, injury or another immediate danger. Roadside Assistance is not an emergency-response agency.

Volkswagen New Vehicle Warranty

Volkswagen currently advertises a New Vehicle Limited Warranty of four years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The warranty generally covers eligible defects in manufacturer materials or workmanship, subject to the warranty booklet’s limitations and exclusions.

The warranty does not mean that every repair is free. Coverage can depend on:

  • The vehicle’s model year and original in-service date
  • Current mileage
  • The failed part or system
  • Maintenance and repair history
  • Damage, misuse, modifications or outside influence
  • Normal wear or maintenance exclusions
  • Whether the work was properly diagnosed and authorized

Use Volkswagen’s official warranty and maintenance page to locate the booklet for the vehicle:

Volkswagen Warranty and Maintenance Information

A warranty complaint does not guarantee repair approval, reimbursement, replacement or vehicle repurchase.

High-Voltage Battery Warranty

Eligible Volkswagen electric vehicles generally include an eight-year or 100,000-mile High-Voltage Battery Limited Warranty, whichever occurs first. Current Volkswagen materials also describe capacity coverage intended to maintain at least 70 percent net battery capacity during the applicable period.

The exact battery, capacity, measurement, repair and exclusion terms are controlled by the vehicle’s warranty booklet. Battery range can also be affected by temperature, charging habits, speed, climate-control use, tire condition and other factors that do not necessarily indicate a covered defect.

Do not touch damaged high-voltage components or attempt to move a vehicle with a smoking, burning, submerged or physically damaged battery. Call 911 and follow emergency instructions.

Volkswagen Carefree Maintenance

Current new Volkswagen vehicles may include scheduled maintenance at the 10,000- and 20,000-mile intervals or for two years, whichever occurs first, as specified in the vehicle’s maintenance booklet.

This benefit does not automatically cover every maintenance item, tire rotation, repair, fluid, wear component or dealer-recommended service. Ask the dealer to identify which services are included before authorizing additional work.

Use the official maintenance schedule for the vehicle’s model year and powertrain:

Volkswagen Maintenance Schedule

Volkswagen Certified Pre-Owned Warranty

Volkswagen’s current Certified Pre-Owned program provides qualifying model-year 2020 and newer vehicles purchased on or after April 1, 2026 with two years or 24,000 miles of CPO limited-warranty coverage, whichever occurs first.

The current warranty manual states that:

  • Coverage begins when the original New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires or on the CPO sale date if the original warranty has already expired.
  • A $50 deductible applies per dealer visit for covered repairs.
  • Maintenance, ordinary wear and excluded components are not covered.
  • Vehicles purchased before April 1, 2026 may have different CPO terms.

Verify the CPO status in the signed sales documents. A used Volkswagen sold by a dealer is not automatically a Volkswagen Certified Pre-Owned vehicle.

Volkswagen Recall and Service-Campaign Checks

Enter the vehicle’s VIN in Volkswagen’s official lookup:

Volkswagen Recall and Service-Campaign Lookup

Also check the government database:

NHTSA Recall Lookup

A safety recall and a service campaign are not necessarily the same. A recall addresses a safety-related defect or regulatory noncompliance. A service campaign may address another technical or customer-satisfaction matter.

For an open recall:

  1. Read the official notice and safety instructions.
  2. Contact an authorized Volkswagen dealer.
  3. Ask whether parts are available.
  4. Schedule the remedy.
  5. Keep the completed repair order.
  6. Check the VIN again after processing.

Recall remedies are performed without charge when the vehicle and repair qualify under the official campaign. Unrelated maintenance and damage are not automatically included.

Reporting a Volkswagen Safety Defect

If you believe a Volkswagen has a safety defect that is not addressed by an existing recall, report it to Volkswagen Customer CARE and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Provide the VIN privately, along with the model, model year, mileage, failure description, repair history and whether a crash, fire, injury or warning occurred.

Volkswagen Dealer Complaints

Authorized Volkswagen dealerships are independently operated businesses. They handle vehicle sales, trade-ins, local pricing, deposits, repair orders, service scheduling and many used-vehicle transactions.

For a dealership complaint:

  1. Speak with the salesperson or service adviser.
  2. Ask for the sales manager or service manager.
  3. Request the disputed price, diagnosis or decision in writing.
  4. Ask for the dealership’s general manager.
  5. Keep the buyer’s order, retail installment contract, lease, repair orders and receipts.
  6. Open a case with Volkswagen Customer CARE when the matter involves the Volkswagen brand, manufacturer warranty or an unresolved authorized-dealer experience.

Volkswagen Customer CARE may document, investigate or facilitate communication, but it does not guarantee that an independent dealer will cancel a sale, refund a deposit, change a trade-in amount or provide a free repair.

Vehicle Deposits, Cancellations and Returns

Volkswagen does not publish one nationwide vehicle-return or purchase-cancellation policy. The dealer normally acts as the seller, and the signed documents control the transaction.

Before paying a deposit or signing a purchase agreement, confirm in writing:

  • Whether the deposit is refundable
  • The deadline and method for cancellation
  • The exact vehicle, VIN, trim and options
  • Dealer charges and add-on products
  • Trade-in terms
  • Financing conditions
  • Estimated delivery timing
  • Any return or exchange provision

Do not assume that a vehicle can be returned merely because the customer changes their mind. Contact the dealer immediately and obtain any cancellation or refund decision in writing.

Volkswagen Repair and Warranty Escalation

For a repeated or unresolved repair:

  1. Return to an authorized Volkswagen dealer while the condition is present.
  2. Describe the symptoms and circumstances clearly.
  3. Make sure the repair order accurately records the complaint.
  4. Keep every repair order, including “could not duplicate” visits.
  5. Ask the service manager for the diagnosis and warranty decision.
  6. Open a case with Volkswagen Customer CARE at 1-800-822-8987.
  7. Provide the case number to the dealer.
  8. Ask for the next technical or regional review step.

State lemon-law and warranty-dispute procedures vary. Volkswagen warranty materials refer eligible disputes to BBB AUTO LINE:

BBB AUTO LINE Vehicle Dispute Program

Use of an informal dispute process may be required before certain legal remedies in some jurisdictions. Consult the current warranty booklet and applicable state requirements.

Volkswagen Financial Services

Volkswagen lists 1-800-428-4034, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. EST, for Volkswagen Financial Services account and lease-end questions.

Use this route for applicable accounts involving:

  • Payments and payment posting
  • Automatic payments
  • Payoff quotes
  • Address changes
  • Title and lien-release questions
  • Lease maturity
  • Lease inspections
  • Excess wear or mileage
  • Vehicle turn-in

Use the account portal or statement to verify the correct payment address. Do not mail a payment to Volkswagen Customer CARE or corporate headquarters.

Volkswagen Retail Finance and Wells Fargo

Volkswagen currently offers retail financing under the Volkswagen Retail Finance name powered by Wells Fargo. Volkswagen states that these auto-finance accounts are owned and serviced by Wells Fargo.

This means a customer purchasing a Volkswagen may have a Wells Fargo retail finance account even though the vehicle, advertising and dealership use the Volkswagen name. Use the lender and account number shown on the signed retail installment contract and monthly statement.

Volkswagen Customer CARE handles vehicle and manufacturer concerns. Wells Fargo handles applicable retail finance payments, account servicing, payoff information and credit reporting.

Volkswagen Lease Returns

Customers with a Volkswagen Financial Services lease should review their account and lease-end guide before the maturity date.

Common steps include:

  • Reviewing available lease-transition options
  • Scheduling the complimentary inspection
  • Completing required maintenance and warranty repairs
  • Reviewing excess wear and mileage
  • Making the final payment
  • Scheduling vehicle return with a dealer

The dealer that originated the lease is generally required to accept the vehicle. A different dealer may need to be contacted in advance to confirm that it will accept the return.

Returning the vehicle does not automatically settle every payment, mileage, damage, tax or disposition charge. Keep the odometer statement, return receipt and final account correspondence.

myVW App and Connected Services

Call 1-833-648-2735 for myVW app and connected-services assistance. Volkswagen lists this support as available 24 hours a day.

Before contacting support, check:

  • The Volkswagen ID email address
  • Whether the vehicle is paired with the correct account
  • The app version and phone operating system
  • The vehicle’s model year and software version
  • Cellular and GPS availability
  • The status of any required subscription
  • Whether another person still has remote access

Connected-service availability varies by vehicle, equipment and subscription. A feature shown in advertising or an app menu may not be available on every model.

When selling, trading or returning a Volkswagen, remove personal profiles and disconnect remote vehicle access. Do not give another person your password or one-time verification code.

Electrify America Charging Support

For an Electrify America charging-station or account problem, call 1-833-632-2778, available 24/7.

Have the following available:

  • The charging-station location
  • The charger number
  • The time of the attempt
  • The app or account email
  • The displayed error message
  • The amount charged or authorization shown

Electrify America is part of Volkswagen Group of America but operates separate charging, payment and account-support systems. A Volkswagen dealer may not be able to reverse an Electrify America transaction.

Volkswagen Scam and Account-Security Warning

  • Use telephone numbers and links obtained from VW.com or verified account documents.
  • Do not trust caller ID alone because telephone numbers can be spoofed.
  • Do not provide a myVW password or one-time verification code to an unexpected caller.
  • Do not pay for a warranty repair, recall remedy or refund through gift cards or cryptocurrency.
  • Do not install remote-access software because of an unsolicited technical-support call.
  • Verify unexpected finance or lease messages through the account portal or statement.
  • Do not send a title, keys or original identification documents to an unverified address.

Contact the financial institution promptly about an unauthorized payment or suspected identity theft.

Volkswagen Group of America Headquarters

The current U.S. corporate entity is Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. Volkswagen of America is the Volkswagen passenger-vehicle operating division.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
1950 Opportunity Way
Reston, VA 20190

The former address at 2200 Ferdinand Porsche Drive in Herndon, Virginia, appears in older Volkswagen records but is not the current published Volkswagen Group of America headquarters.

Dr. Kjell Gruner is president and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America and CEO of Volkswagen Brand North America. Volkswagen Group of America is a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagen AG in Germany.

The Reston headquarters is not a dealership, repair shop, vehicle-return location, finance-payment center or guaranteed public walk-in complaint office. Do not send vehicles, keys, titles, payments or original documents there without written instructions.
