Never give an unexpected caller your password, PIN or one-time code, and never move money to a “safe” account. End the contact and call the number on the back of your card, use the Chase app or use a number verified on Chase.com.

Choose the Correct Chase Support Route

Problem First action What to have ready
Unrecognized transaction Decide whether it is fraud or a recognized-merchant dispute, then use the matching route above Transaction date, amount, descriptor and authorized-user checks
Account frozen or closed Call personal banking; contact the branch manager if a branch was involved Restriction notice, deposit details, pending items and identity documents requested by Chase
Credit card charge error Contact the merchant when appropriate, then dispute the posted charge in Chase Receipt, cancellation or return proof, merchant response and statement date
Zelle, wire or transfer scam Call Chase immediately and ask whether the payment can be stopped or recalled Recipient, amount, time, confirmation, messages and scammer details
Mortgage servicing problem Call Home Lending and verify the address for any formal written notice Loan number, statement, escrow analysis, payment proof and prior case numbers

Before Contacting Chase

  • Identify the exact product: deposit account, debit card, credit card, mortgage, auto loan or lease, or business account.
  • Gather statements, transaction details, receipts, screenshots, merchant messages and earlier case numbers.
  • Write a short timeline with dates, amounts, people or departments contacted and promised follow-up.
  • State the outcome requested: account access, corrected balance, fee reversal, credit, claim review, written explanation or other specific action.
  • Use secure messaging for account details; do not send passwords, PINs or complete account numbers by ordinary email.

Do not post a complete account or card number, password, PIN, Social Security number, one-time code or other private financial information in a public review.

Checking, Savings and Debit-Card Help

Call personal banking at 1-800-935-9935 for checking and savings accounts, deposits, withdrawals, account fees, direct deposits, bill payments, ATM activity, debit-card service and account restrictions. For a branch-specific incident, use the Chase branch locator to contact the branch manager.

Account Frozen, Restricted or Closed

Ask which department placed the restriction, whether Chase needs identity, deposit or business documents, what will happen to pending deposits and payments, and how any remaining balance will be returned. A representative may not disclose every internal reason for a restriction, but you can request the action required from you, the review status and a written explanation when available.

  • Save every email, letter and secure message about the restriction.
  • Keep deposit receipts and proof of the source of funds.
  • Ask whether direct deposits or automatic payments need to be redirected.
  • Record the case number and the deadline for supplying documents.
  • If the account was closed, ask how and when the final balance will be sent.

If you believe Chase reported inaccurate account information to a consumer-reporting company, dispute the information with the reporting company and follow the current Chase deposit agreement’s instructions for a direct dispute. Use the address in the agreement that applies to that specific issue rather than sending account correspondence to corporate headquarters.

Chase Credit Card Customer Service

Call 1-800-432-3117 for card payments, interest and fees, rewards, replacement cards, credit limits, authorized-user problems, account restrictions and merchant disputes. The number on the back of the card may route a Sapphire, co-branded or business card more directly.

Prepare for a Credit Card Call

  • Confirm whether the transaction is pending or posted.
  • Review the statement period and payment due date.
  • Save the receipt, order, cancellation, return tracking and merchant response.
  • Check whether a household member or authorized user recognizes the charge.
  • Continue paying at least the undisputed amount due while a dispute is reviewed.

Reporting a card as lost, stolen or used without permission can cause Chase to close and replace the card. Ask whether digital-wallet cards, subscriptions and recurring payments need to be updated.

Chase Fraud, Unauthorized Transactions and Disputes

Fraud generally means neither you nor another authorized user made or approved the transaction. A merchant dispute involves a transaction you recognize but believe is wrong—for example, the amount is incorrect, it is a duplicate, merchandise was not delivered, a promised refund is missing or a canceled subscription renewed.

If You Suspect Fraud

  1. Call the matching Chase fraud number immediately.
  2. Lock the affected card in the Chase app or online when available.
  3. Review nearby transactions and every account for additional activity.
  4. Change the Chase password if online access may be compromised.
  5. Ask whether the account or card will be replaced and what recurring payments are affected.
  6. Keep the claim number, representative’s name and requested-document deadline.

A card lock may block many new card purchases, but it may not stop every previously authorized or recurring transaction. Contact Chase rather than relying on the lock alone.

How To Dispute a Chase Card Charge

  1. Review the merchant name, amount and transaction details.
  2. Contact the merchant first when the transaction is recognized and it is safe to do so.
  3. Wait for a credit-card transaction to post; Chase says pending card transactions generally cannot be disputed.
  4. Sign in, select the posted transaction and choose the option to report a problem, or call the number on the back of the card.
  5. Submit the dispute promptly. Chase instructs customers to dispute a charge within 60 days of its first appearance on the statement.
  6. Upload requested documents and monitor secure messages for questions or a decision.

Chase says a card dispute may take up to 90 days. For eligible debit-card claims, it says provisional credit is usually provided within 48 hours but may take up to 10 business days. Timing and rights depend on the product, transaction and applicable law, so follow the instructions and deadlines in Chase’s current notices and account agreement.

Pending versus posted: Chase says a credit-card charge must post before an online dispute can begin; pending transactions generally post within one to three business days. For a pending debit-card concern, call 1-866-564-2262, but the transaction must post before an online dispute is submitted.

Unfamiliar Chase.comn Charges

A statement entry containing CHASE.COMN or a similar Chase descriptor may be connected with a Chase card or bank transaction, but a familiar company name alone does not prove that a charge is authorized. Compare the amount, date and descriptor with Chase account activity and ask every authorized user.

The dedicated Chase.comn charge guide explains the descriptor and the checks to make. If nobody recognizes the transaction, contact Chase through the number on the back of the affected card or the verified fraud route above. Do not call a telephone number contained only in a suspicious text, email or search advertisement.

Zelle, Wire and Bank-Transfer Scams

Contact Chase immediately if you sent money because of impersonation, fake fraud alerts, account-takeover instructions, a compromised email, a fraudulent purchase or pressure to “protect” your funds. Ask whether a pending payment can be stopped or a completed wire can be recalled. A recall is not guaranteed, and speed matters.

  1. Do not send another payment, even if the recipient promises to return the first one.
  2. Save the recipient’s name, email, telephone number, account details, confirmation and messages.
  3. Report the incident to Chase and request a claim or case number.
  4. Secure your Chase login and email account if either may be compromised.
  5. Report related identity theft or criminal activity to the appropriate authorities.

For product-specific guidance, see the Zelle customer service, fraud and complaint guide. Zelle generally cannot reverse an authorized payment merely because the recipient was a scammer; the bank must evaluate the facts and the applicable protections.

How To File and Escalate a Chase Complaint

  1. Start with the product department. Use the banking, card, auto, mortgage or business route that can access the account.
  2. Explain the requested resolution. Give a concise timeline, amount involved and the action you want Chase to take.
  3. Request a case number. Record the date, time, representative, department and promised next step.
  4. Create a written record. Send a secure message or use Chase’s official complaints and feedback page.
  5. Ask for specialized review. Request a supervisor, claims specialist, branch manager, fraud investigator, mortgage specialist or complaint reviewer as appropriate.
  6. Follow the formal instructions. For a regulated dispute or error notice, use the address and deadline in the current agreement, statement or department notice.

External Complaint Options

If Chase has had a reasonable opportunity to respond and the issue remains unresolved, the appropriate regulator may help:

Include the account type, dates, disputed amount, case numbers, Chase’s responses and the resolution requested. Redact sensitive information unless the secure complaint form specifically requests it. A regulator does not replace an urgent fraud report or a contractual or legal deadline.
