San Francisco Chronicle Customer Service, Delivery and Subscription Help

Need to report a missing or damaged San Francisco Chronicle newspaper, stop delivery for a trip, change your subscription, question a charge, cancel service, activate digital access, or contact the newsroom? Call subscriber customer service at 415-777-7000 or use the Chronicle’s official online support form.

San Francisco Chronicle customer service at a glance

The Chronicle’s current help pages do not clearly publish one universal telephone-service schedule. Use the online request form if telephone support is unavailable.

Protect your account: Do not publish your subscriber number, complete delivery address, vacation dates, telephone number, email address, password, payment-card information, bank details, billing statement, or account screenshots in a public review. Use verified sfchronicle.com, subscription.sfchronicle.com, or sfchronicle.zendesk.com pages when submitting account information.

How to contact the San Francisco Chronicle

The correct contact route depends on whether the issue involves a subscription, newspaper delivery, digital access, an editorial submission, an obituary, or advertising.

What to have ready before contacting customer service

Prepare enough information to identify the account and explain the requested result. Helpful details include:

  • Subscriber name and service address
  • Email address and telephone number associated with the account
  • Subscriber or account number, if available
  • Date the delivery, billing, login, or cancellation problem began
  • Dates and amounts of disputed charges
  • Previous request or case numbers
  • Screenshots of account changes or error messages, with sensitive information concealed
  • The requested resolution, such as replacement delivery, account correction, subscription change, cancellation confirmation, or digital-access restoration

Ask for a case or confirmation number and record the date, representative’s name, department, promised action, and expected completion date. Keep cancellation and billing confirmations until all charges have stopped.

Missing, wet, damaged, or late newspaper delivery

Sign in to the subscriber account, open the Delivery section, and select the option for a delivery issue. The Chronicle also provides an official missing or damaged newspaper guide.

Report the affected delivery date, describe whether the newspaper was missing, late, wet, damaged, or left in the wrong location, and request the available remedy. The Chronicle’s subscriber terms say a delivery disruption should be reported within two days.

For recurring delivery problems, retain the dates of each missed or incorrect delivery and the related case numbers. This makes it easier to show that the problem is continuing rather than limited to one issue.

Vacation holds and delivery-address changes

To pause print delivery, sign in to the account, open the Delivery tab, and select “Place a Vacation Hold.” The Chronicle also publishes a vacation-hold guide.

Confirm the first date without delivery, the restart date, and the service address. Check the account after submitting the request and save the confirmation. The Chronicle’s current subscriber terms state that vacation holds do not create subscription credit.

For a permanent or temporary address change, use the account’s “Change Delivery Address” option or follow the official delivery-address instructions.

Billing, subscription changes, and cancellation

Sign in to the subscriber account, open the Billing tab, and select “Change Subscription” for available subscription changes. Customer service can also help at 415-777-7000 or through the online request form.

The Chronicle’s current Subscriber Terms and Conditions say EZPay print and digital subscriptions generally renew and are charged in advance every four weeks unless the offer states otherwise. Promotional subscriptions may continue at the applicable standard rate after the promotional period.

A subscriber may notify the Chronicle of an intent to cancel at any time. Cancellation ordinarily becomes effective at the end of the current billing period and stops future charges. Payments are generally nonrefundable, and the terms do not promise refunds or credits for partially used billing periods. Any exception is subject to the Chronicle’s discretion.

When canceling, request written confirmation showing the effective cancellation date. Save that confirmation and review the next billing statement to make sure no unexpected renewal occurs.

Digital access, e-Edition, and app support

A print subscriber can activate included digital access at SFChronicle.com/activate. After activation, use the same username and password for the website and mobile app.

The e-Edition is a digital replica of the print newspaper. Access it through the account menu, bookmark SFChronicle.com/eedition, or select e-Edition in the mobile app’s bottom navigation.

For an app-specific problem, review the Chronicle’s app download and support page or email appsupport@sfchronicle.com. Include the device model, operating system, app version, sign-in email, and exact error message, but do not email a password or payment information.

News tips, letters, obituaries, and advertising

Subscriber customer service does not make editorial decisions or select stories for publication. Use the newsroom contact directory to identify the appropriate desk, editor, reporter, or department.

San Francisco Chronicle ownership and office information

The San Francisco Chronicle is owned by Hearst Communications. The Chronicle’s current newsroom directory identifies Bill Nagel as publisher and Emilio Garcia-Ruiz as editor-in-chief.

Newsroom operations moved from the longtime 901 Mission Street building to 450 Sansome Street in June 2026. Some official corporate, advertising, and editorial pages still display 901 Mission Street. Neither location should be treated as a walk-in subscriber-service center. Verify the correct destination before mailing a payment, cancellation notice, legal document, editorial submission, or other time-sensitive material.

Privacy and account security

Review privacy reminder: Describe what happened and how the Chronicle responded, but do not post a subscriber number, full delivery address, billing statement, vacation schedule, telephone number, email address, password, payment information, or unredacted correspondence. Publicly identifying when a home will be vacant can create a security risk.

Use the Chronicle’s Privacy Notice and privacy-choice information for access, deletion, correction, opt-out, or other privacy-rights questions. Privacy requests are separate from newspaper delivery, subscription, and billing support.

San Francisco Chronicle reviews

As of August 18, 2026, this CustomerServiceNumbers.com page has a rating of 3.0 out of 5 stars based on 1 review.

The review, dated April 23, 2018, says a requested vacation suspension allegedly was not followed and newspapers continued accumulating outside the subscriber’s home. The reviewer described the accumulated papers as a property-safety concern and said earlier complaints had not corrected the delivery problem.

One dated review is not enough to establish a current customer-service pattern. If you leave a review, include the approximate date, whether the problem involved delivery, billing, cancellation, digital access, or another department, the contact method used, and whether the matter was resolved. Do not publish private account information.

Home delivery papers continue to pile up on my door step

April 23, 2018

Each time I file a vacation suspension my home delivery papers continue to pile up on my door step. Apparently the delivery service ignores our suspension request. This is a safety issue for my property. We have complained about this to customer service for months on end. We travel quite often. This needs to be fixed or we need to cancel the paper permanently
