How to Contact Georgia Power Customer Service

Georgia Power Customer Service Hours

Georgia Power residential customer service is generally available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Business customer service is generally available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Outage reporting and automated account tools may be available outside normal live-agent hours.

Best Ways to Get Help from Georgia Power

The correct contact method depends on the issue. For dangerous electrical conditions, outages, downed lines, or low-hanging wires, contact Georgia Power outage support immediately. For billing, deposits, payment arrangements, start/stop service, or account changes, use residential or business customer service.

For Power Outages or Downed Lines

Report an outage online, through the Georgia Power app, by texting OUT to 42797, or by calling 1-888-891-0938. If you see a downed power line, low-hanging wire, sparking equipment, or another dangerous condition, stay far away and call Georgia Power or emergency services.

For Billing, Deposits, or Account Questions

Residential customers can call 1-888-660-5890 for billing, deposits, service changes, payment questions, and general account help. Business customers can call 1-888-655-5888.

For Bill Payments by Phone

Customers can pay by checking or savings account by calling 1-888-660-5890. Credit and debit card payments are processed through BillMatrix, a third-party payment service, at 1-800-672-2402. Georgia Power states that BillMatrix is not affiliated with Georgia Power and that fees may apply.

For Start, Stop, or Move Service

Use the Georgia Power website or customer service line to start, stop, or transfer electric service. Save confirmation numbers and requested service dates, especially if you are moving, closing on a home, transferring service, or ending service at one address while keeping service at another.

What to Have Ready Before Contacting Georgia Power

  • Your Georgia Power account number
  • The service address
  • The name on the account
  • The phone number and email address connected to the account
  • Recent bill, payment confirmation, or disconnect notice
  • Photos or notes if the issue involves a tree, line, pole, meter, or damaged equipment
  • Outage confirmation or case number, if available
  • A short explanation of the problem and the resolution you are requesting

Georgia Power Customer Service Reviews and Complaints

CustomerServiceNumbers.com currently shows 8 Georgia Power reviews with an overall rating of 2.8 out of 5 stars. The visible CSN reviews are mixed and lean toward customers looking for help with service or unresolved problems. Because many of the visible reviews are older, customers should read the individual comments and leave a current review below if they have recently contacted Georgia Power about billing, outages, service changes, tree trimming, payments, scams, or complaint resolution.

Common Georgia Power Customer Complaints

Customers searching for Georgia Power customer service often need help with:

  • Power outages and restoration updates
  • Downed lines, low-hanging wires, or damaged equipment
  • High electric bills or billing questions
  • Deposits for new or late-payment accounts
  • Payment arrangements, payment extensions, or financial assistance
  • Start, stop, or move service requests
  • Auto-pay, bank draft, or online payment problems
  • Credit/debit card payment issues through BillMatrix
  • Tree trimming, vegetation management, or property damage complaints
  • Scam calls, suspicious texts, or fake payment demands
  • Difficulty reaching a live customer-service representative

Georgia Power Outage and Safety Tips

If your power is out, check whether nearby homes or businesses are also affected. Report the outage through Georgia Power’s outage center, app, text system, or outage phone number. Do not assume Georgia Power already knows about every outage, especially if the issue affects only your home, meter, service line, or transformer.

Stay away from downed wires, damaged poles, sparking equipment, flooded areas near electrical equipment, and trees touching power lines. Never try to move a wire, remove a limb from a line, or inspect utility equipment yourself.

Georgia Power Billing and Payment Help

Georgia Power offers online payments, phone payments, automatic payments, authorized payment locations, and mail payments. Customers can pay by bank account over the phone at 1-888-660-5890. Customers who pay by credit or debit card through BillMatrix can call 1-800-672-2402.

If your issue involves a high bill, compare the billing period, kilowatt-hour usage, weather, rate plan, meter reading, prior bills, and any account changes. If your bill appears incorrect, contact Georgia Power and ask for a case number or written explanation.

Georgia Power Scam and Fraud Warning

Georgia Power warns customers to be cautious of people claiming to represent the company. Georgia Power says it will never threaten immediate disconnection or demand payment information over the phone. If you receive a suspicious call, text, email, or in-person visit, do not provide account numbers, card numbers, banking information, or prepaid-card codes.

If you are unsure whether a call, text, or email is legitimate, hang up or stop responding and contact Georgia Power directly at 1-888-660-5890. Georgia Power states that billing-related text messages may come from 99123 and outage-related texts may come from 42797, but customers should still avoid clicking suspicious links.

How to Escalate a Georgia Power Problem

If your Georgia Power issue is not resolved after the first contact, take these steps:

  1. Save your bill, payment confirmation, outage report, case number, and any written messages.
  2. Write down the date, time, department, and phone number used for each contact.
  3. Ask whether your issue is being handled by billing, outage support, claims, vegetation management, or business customer service.
  4. Request written confirmation of any payment arrangement, billing correction, refund, service order, or claim decision.
  5. If the issue involves property damage, tree trimming, or equipment damage, take photos and keep repair estimates or inspection notes.
  6. If the issue involves an unauthorized charge or suspected scam payment, contact your bank or card issuer immediately.
  7. If a regulated utility issue remains unresolved, consider contacting the Georgia Public Service Commission for complaint guidance.

Georgia Power DIsappointing Bills

April 9, 2015

Georgia Power, Too high of a bill. The Utility regulator wants Georgia Power to lower bills by June. Well June is not far down the road and if you do not then they will know and I have to pay for the new plant then I want a part of the share but I bet I would get a dime of it so get the power bills down it is hurting disabled people that do not have the money to pay for it so we have to left out our meds or food to pay for the power bill.
