Choose the correct support route:

  • Report a power outage by calling 1-888-544-4877 or texting OUT to 544487.

Report a JCP&L Power Outage

Report a power outage by calling 1-888-544-4877 or by using the official FirstEnergy outage-reporting page.

Customers enrolled in outage text alerts can text OUT to 544487. To register a mobile number, text REG to 544487. After reporting an outage, text STAT to the same number for available status information.

Additional restoration and safety information is available through FirstEnergy’s outage help center.

Report a Streetlight Problem

Problems involving public streetlights or outdoor area lights can be submitted through the official streetlight and outdoor-light reporting page.

Record the nearest address, pole number, and a description of the problem before submitting a report. This can help JCP&L identify the correct light.

Billing, Payments and Account Help

Call JCP&L Customer Care at 1-800-662-3115 for help with:

  • Unexpected or unusually high electric bills
  • Payment posting questions
  • Payment arrangements
  • Shutoff or disconnection notices
  • Deposits and account balances
  • Meter-reading concerns
  • Account or mailing-address changes

Have your account number, service address, bill amount, payment confirmation, and relevant dates ready before calling. Ask for a confirmation or case number when the issue requires additional follow-up.

Start, Stop or Move JCP&L Service

Customers who are moving can use the official start, stop, or transfer service page. Submit the request as early as possible and verify the requested start or termination date.

JCP&L Payment Assistance

Customers having difficulty paying an electric bill should contact JCP&L before the account reaches disconnection. Depending on eligibility and current program availability, assistance may include payment arrangements, the Universal Service Fund, LIHEAP or HEAP, SHARES, PAGE, and medical-certification programs.

Visit the official JCP&L payment-assistance page or call 1-800-662-3115. New Jersey residents can also dial 211 for information about available energy-assistance programs.

Critical Care and Medical Needs

JCP&L offers programs for qualifying customers who depend on electrically operated medical equipment. Contact Customer Care at 1-800-662-3115 to ask about enrollment and required medical documentation.

Enrollment does not guarantee uninterrupted electric service or faster restoration. Customers should maintain an emergency backup plan for medical equipment and follow instructions from their healthcare provider.

How to Escalate a JCP&L Complaint

Start by contacting JCP&L and give the representative a clear description of the problem, important dates, amounts paid, and any previous case numbers. Keep notes recording the time of each contact and the response received.

If the matter remains unresolved after contacting JCP&L, residential customers can contact the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. The BPU handles complaints involving service delays, discontinuances, payment arrangements, deposits, high bills, and rate-related concerns.

Avoid JCP&L Payment Scams

Be cautious if someone unexpectedly demands immediate payment to prevent same-day disconnection. FirstEnergy warns that its representatives do not demand payment with prepaid cards or unexpectedly request Social Security numbers or bank information.

Do not use a telephone number supplied by a suspicious caller, text, or email. End the contact and independently call JCP&L at 1-800-662-3115. Additional examples are available on FirstEnergy’s official utility scam information page.

JCP&L Customer Reviews and Complaints

At the time of this update, JCP&L has a rating of 3.0 out of 5 based on three reviews submitted to CustomerServiceNumbers.com. All three reviews date from 2014, so they should be treated as historical customer experiences rather than a broad measurement of current JCP&L service.

The reviews mention difficulty submitting a commercial meter reading, reaching a representative about a shutoff and reconnection, and finding the correct option for reporting a streetlight problem. JCP&L now provides a dedicated online streetlight-reporting form.

JCP&L Customer Service Inquiry

June 23, 2014

Each month I need to submit a customer reading for a commercial account (my church). When I call the customer service line I get an individual who can only take residential readings. When that individual attempts to transfer me to the commercial division, the call gets lost. What is a surefire way of getting through to the commercial division so I can give them the reading?

JCP&L Worst Customer Service

March 31, 2014

The worst customer service company in the world!!!!!! Can’t get a live operator or manager to treat people horribly and there’s nowhere else to go. So why treat us good we can’t shop around. We’re stuck in this mess with no out, due to the bad economy I couldn’t pay them on time so they crap me down at 1 pm they knocked on my door obviously nobody was home. They left a note on my door and shut me down. I’m now helpless with a 12-hour waiting time. I have a dead lizard due to no heat lamp and bad food. One call to my cell could have solved this problem quickly but they are not that smart! My wife was stuck on my driveway with no access to the house without an electric garage door operational. She was out there for 3 hours and is emotionally distraught over the situation. My son had to destroy my sliding door with a gardening tool to gain access to my house. Thanks, JCP&L for a totally embarrassing day with all of my neighbors watching. I can’t believe a company is run so horribly. I’m in business for myself and my customers are spoiled with my great customer service. You guys should all be proud of yourselves!! A very unhappy customer

I Have Been Trying For Over 2 Hours To Talk To Someone To Report A Street Light That Is Out And All I Can Get Is A Recording That Does Not Provide That Choice And As A Result, I Cannot Report It. I Don’t Have A “Power Outage” Or A “Dim Light” Or A “Wire Down”. I Simply Want To Get Someone To Come Out To Pole No.Bt2072Dv And Put A New Bulb In The Fixture.
